Sample Artificial Inteligence Policy

Authored by Reproaction

Artificial Intelligence as a technology is new, controversial, and ever-changing. It is unclear how the future of AI will impact sexual and reproductive freedoms, but as an organization working on progressive-left causes including abortion access, there are many issues AI creates for our sector. [1]

AI uses generated content from across the web, including inputs from users, and it cannot generate brand new content. Many AI platforms are also not up to date, with many still using data from before Roe v. Wade fell. AI is aggregating and churning out data that is overwhelmingly pushing regressive gendered stereotypes, hypersexualized content, and misinformation. [2]

The use of AI could leave (insert organization title) vulnerable to false information, plagiarism, copyright infringement, lawsuits, data breaches, exposure of our research posture and targets, and more. Because of these concerns, all staff must follow the policy laid out below:

No work for (insert organization title) may be done using AI, including but not limited to research, content creation (including written, audio, or visual), communications, hiring practices, policy creation, and recordkeeping. This applies to full-time staff, part-time staff, fellows, interns, consultants, etc. This includes AI built into existing digital platforms such as (insert name of AI on platform the organization uses) with (insert name of platform organization uses). If outside organizations are using AI note taking in meetings that they are hosting, please inquire immediately to the host to ask if AI may be turned off. In this criminalized environment, it is extremely concerning to have reproductive justice issues and strategies discussed in an environment where names are recorded and potentially shared with unknown entities. If it is deemed that AI is necessary for the meeting to continue, you are encouraged to leave the meeting and request notes after the fact. If you feel you absolutely must be present, please do not say anything either verbally or in chat or polls, and be aware that even having your name in a record of the meeting could expose you and the organization to unwanted outcomes. You are encouraged to educate others as to why AI should not be used in reproductive justice meetings.

The safety and security of our team and work is a top priority. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in immediate punitive action and will be addressed accordingly. This policy will be reviewed and updated regularly as needed. If there are any questions about the policy, please direct those to your supervisor or (insert name of security personnel).
