Amnesty International USA: Tell Meta and TikTok to stop removing abortion information

by Amnesty International USA and Repro Uncensored

Amnesty International USA, working in coalition with Repro Uncensored, has been working to track and collect evidence of abortion content removals on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok since 2022. In recent weeks, reproductive health and rights organizations have reported an uptick in content removals and account restrictions while sharing information on how to access abortion care.

Removing abortion content from social media limits the availability of essential reproductive health and rights information, and creates yet another obstacle for abortion seekers to overcome when seeking accurate health information.

Everybody has the right to access unbiased and medically accurate information on abortion, and Big Tech companies should engage in human rights due diligence to ensure that their practices and policies respect human rights.

We invite you to sign on to our open letter to call upon TikTok and Meta to uphold their human rights responsibilities, and provide greater transparency regarding how abortion content is moderated on their platforms.

The deadline to sign is Tuesday, December 10th, 2024 by the end of the day.
