UNGA 2024: Art, Care, & Action: creating the future of Reproductive Rights Around the Globe at NeueHouse NYC

Last Friday, September 20th, 2024, during the United Nations General Assembly, we hosted Art, Care, & Action: Creating the Future of Reproductive Rights Around the Globe at NeueHouse Madison Square in New York City.

The event was organized by the Universal Access Project, Repro Uncensored, Plan C, Amnesty International USA, Women on Web, Autumn Breon, and FEMINIST.

In conjunction with International Safe Abortion Day, Art, Care, & Action brought together global voices working at the intersection of art and reproductive rights to showcase care activities, film screenings, and panel discussions that envisioned the future of reproductive rights worldwide. The evening opened with a curated care sound meditation and a dance workshop by the Brazilian collective Mulheres Ao Vento. Care services were led by intersectional artist Autumn Breon, and Emmy Award Winner Tani Ikeda led a Survivor Love Letter workshop. Attendees also enjoyed our Amplifier Art giveaway.

The event featured a panel discussion with speakers from the Senegalese Pan-African collective Kimpa Vita, Amplifier Art collective, and digital rights experts who focused on innovative, culturally grounded strategies for addressing reproductive rights challenges globally, from West Africa to North America.

Additionally, FEMINIST and Womanly Magazine hosted a special preview of their upcoming FEMINIST Film Fest. The screenings showcased films exploring global feminist themes like bodily autonomy and gender roles, followed by a Q&A on how films can impact activism and cultural expression.

Throughout the evening, guests checked their voter registration status and registered to vote, while enjoying care services like nail art and reiki, curated by Autumn Breon, offered free of charge.

This event was part of a broader campaign spanning three continents, including events in Brussels and rural Senegal from September 18-22. The initiative aimed to drive inclusive, international conversations on reproductive rights and abortion access, using art and activism as tools for change, amplifying the collective call for reproductive justice across diverse cultures and continents.
